A Training Center

While the House of Light living facilities was completed in 2016, our most recent project involves the completion of our Training Center. Once this building is completed, it will provide space for our girls to attend school without needing to leave the property,* learn cloud-based learning curriculum, taking sewing lessons, practice piano, as well as teach ways to enter back into society. This Training Center will be the center of education and restoration for IJM’s aftercare center.

*Due to the sensitive nature of some of the girls’ cases, it is too dangerous for them to leave the property to attend a local school. Without a Training Center, they are limited in their access to education.

Sewing

The House of Light was able to purchase a sewing machine for the girls to learn embroidery and other skills. Lessons such as these provide the young women opportunities for future employment.

beehives

One important aspect of the House of Light is to transition the center to sustainable funding sources. We recently installed a beehive that will provide the community with profitable honey by Fall 2019. Not only does this teach the girls a marketable skill, but will lead to the internal sustainability of the house.

The cloud-based learning center will provide the girls with practical training that can lead to jobs in the market. By preparing these girls for employment, they now have the resources and personal empowerment to be hired, despite living in a community that can often focus on shame and past history.
